These courses are designed for those who wish to pursue a career in diving. Courses include Dive Master, Assistant Instructor, Open Water Instructor and Course Director.

Required Logged Dives: 40 / Minimum Course Hours 40

Course Requirement:

Give a minimum of 5 briefs/ debriefs, show preparation, planning and control in Dive Management and Dive Activities.

Guide a minimum of 4 dives with varying sites and environmental conditions.

​Water Skill Requirements:

800-meter swim with mask, snorkel and fins nonstop, without the use of arms in less than 17 minutes. 400-meter swim on the surface nonstop, any stroke without the use of swimming aids, Swimming googles are permitted. Bring a diver simulating unconsciousness up from depth (no greater than 6 meters / 20 feet). At the surface swim diver 100 meters in less than 4 minutes.​

The SDI Course Director Course is the first module of SDI’s Instructor Trainer (IT) Development Program. This program trains candidates to conduct the SDI Instructor Development Course (IDC) independently. In addition, SDI Course Directors are qualified to conduct the SDI Non-Diving Specialty Instructor Course and specialty ratings for SDI Instructors and Assistant Instructors.

The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Instructor (OWSDI) course is designed to teach current Divemasters or Assistant Instructors certified with a recognized dive training organization the knowledge to effectively function as an open water scuba diver instructor. This program is divided into two sections, an instructor development course (IDC) and an instructor evaluation course (IEC).

The SDI Divemaster Course is the first professional level certification. During the course you will learn how to work with divers, lead certified divers, and act as a dive guide showing divers underwater dive sites and the marine life that inhabits those dives sites. You will increase your knowledge about physics and physiology as well as increase your proficiency with your scuba and snorkeling skills.
